Using Padlet to Organise our Ideas

In Reading this term, a group of us are reading "The Whale Rider" by Witi Irimaera.  As part of our reading we are discussing bias and how it impacts the interactions between the characters.

Bias is a term we have heard before but find difficult to define, so we used Padlet to collect all our thoughts and then organise them into relevant and irrelevant to creating a definition.  Here's our ideas.

From this we created this definition:

"Bias is focussing on one side of the story.  It could be forms of racism, sexism or other cultural beliefs.  It can involve people forming stereotypes."

Bias is such a tricky idea to describe and recognise sometimes! I will be really interested to hear about your discussions on The Whale Rider and how the different characters interact with each other. Keep us posted! Ms J
