Using Padlet to Organise our Ideas

In Reading this term, a group of us are reading "The Whale Rider" by Witi Irimaera.  As part of our reading we are discussing bias and how it impacts the interactions between the characters.

Bias is a term we have heard before but find difficult to define, so we used Padlet to collect all our thoughts and then organise them into relevant and irrelevant to creating a definition.  Here's our ideas.

From this we created this definition:

"Bias is focussing on one side of the story.  It could be forms of racism, sexism or other cultural beliefs.  It can involve people forming stereotypes."

2016 Reading Challenge

This year in Room 20 we have challenged ourselves to read more books.  Mrs Graham has chosen 20 different challenges for us to try and meet.  The purpose of this challenge is to expose us to books that we might not have considered reading before.

Each student in Room 20 has their own stack of books that will grow as they read.  Maybe you might like to join the challenge too...

Welcome to Our Blog!

Happy New Year!  Welcome to Room 20's 2016 Class Blog.  This is a place where we will be sharing our learning journey for the year.  We hope that you will follow along with our adventures.

We are a Year 6 class from Elm Park School in Pakuranga, Auckland, New Zealand.  Each of us have our own blog as part of our e-Portfolios.  You'll find the links to these on the right sidebar.  Please take the time to look at what we are learning and leave us comments.  We love to receive your feedback.
